Be Social Change Member Jonas Cartano is an arts and culture consultant, coach, and educator. At Third Eye Cultural Collaborative, a consultancy Jonas co-founded, he partners with arts organizations on program design, professional development, mentorship and data collection among other projects.
Jonas neatly describes this expansive role as one of a facilitator, supporting the organizations and lending his expertise to help lead strong, effective arts and culture projects.
Initially, Jonas worked full time for various arts organizations but felt that he wanted to broaden his impact, to support when organizations needed help most. Jonas became a consultant, adding that he enjoyed learning from numerous organizations and about their missions, while also providing services to a broad array of important initiatives.
One of the organizations he worked with was Harlem’s Apollo Theater where he helped to strategize about the launch of a possible new program for high school students teaching digital tools and theatrical production. Through thoughtful consideration, focus groups, and facilitated conversation, Jonas was able to provide staff members with helpful information to build the program.
Since 2014, Jonas has been an active member of Be Social Change, often volunteering a helping hand at in-person events. Some of Jonas’ favorite events include the Design Thinking and Facilitation workshops. And, he enjoyed our networking dinners for introverts and member mixers. Reflecting on his experiences at Be Social Change events, Jonas adds, “it feels like a space where we can wonder aloud about how to change the world. Which I love. I love being in that space.”
Through meeting and building connections with Be Social Change members, Jonas has deepened his love for being a part of learning communities and doing good by others, values that have also driven his work. He concludes, “There are tons and tons of people and sometimes they could just use a little support and some encouragement. And I think anyone can play that role in lifting others up.”
