Be Social Change member, Jonny Imerman, is a beloved figure wherever he goes. Jonny joins every Be Social Change event – you can always see him smiling from his Zoom box, enthusiastic about learning the latest in sustainability and social good.
His journey in social impact began when he was 26 years-old and was diagnosed with cancer. After a two-year battle, he and a group of other survivors founded an incredible nonprofit called Imerman Angels, a Chicago-based nonprofit that matches cancer patients with survivors of the very same diagnosis as a support and mentor figure during the most difficult time of people’s lives.
In trying to reach out to more cancer survivors, Jonny and his co-founders tried all different types of nonprofit promotion. After trial-and-error and then learning what worked, they harnessed their findings into a new social enterprise called CLOZTALK that has the power to transform nonprofit marketing. CLOZTALK partners with incredible nonprofits to create beautiful, simple, black and white t-shirts featuring their logos. When you purchase your favorite nonprofit’s t-shirt, CLOZTALK donates 20% of net profits back to its 230+ and growing list of vetted nonprofits and you become more than a donor – you become a walking advocate for the mission most important to you. Jonny envisions a world where every person is representing the social causes closest to their heart.
When Jonny attended his first Be Social Change event in 2019, he knew instantly, “I found my people!” He was inspired by the panel conversations and the community. He particularly loved the Greener NYC Spotlight where we heard from Julie Raskin, Executive Director of the Sanitation Foundation in the NYC Department of Sanitation, about the immense resources that go into waste management and the possibilities for sustainable solutions.
Jonny has also made valuable friendships and connections at Be Social Change events, including with partners at Givsly, who also support nonprofits with alternate forms of promotion and fundraising. Jonny exemplifies one of his core beliefs: “through adversity you find advocacy.” To get involved with CLOZTALK, you can learn more here.
